FAQ about the Club

Q - Am I eligible to join the IDSS Club?
A - You would have to be divorced, separated, widowed, or over 35 and single, to be eligible to join our Club.

Q - Do I have to have proof of status?
A - Ideally yes you do. We will need to see some kind of proof of your status i.e. divorce papers or Council Tax bill etc.
If you are unsure what proof you could bring along, give Marion a call on 07890954019

Q - What do I get for my money if I  join?
A
- To join our Club will cost your £15. For this you will receive a monthly programme informing you of all the news, events
coming up and details of how to get to our events. You also receive a booklet containing everything you need to know about the Club, including rules and regulations. We also want you to keep coming back once you've joined, so we run  a loyalty card which you can exchange for a free dance after collecting 10 stamps, (your 11th dance will be free).
You will also be able to attend certain functions held by other Divorced and Separated Clubs in the area, like Colchester.
We also have a welfare person who you can contact if you need someone to talk to.

Q - I'm not a dancing person, is there anything else you can offer for people like me?
A
- Yes, we also have a social side to the Club, as we call it. We hire a church once a week. We have our
own group of people who like to play badminton and come and support us on a Monday Evening
At the hall we can take part in all sorts of  activities like darts, table tennis, pool, games, bingo and quiz nights and also music quizzes, which are enjoyed by all who take part. You can also just come along for a tea/coffee and a chat with other Members just to get out of your four walls at home.
The cost of the evening is only £2 which includes all refreshments and will cost £1 more if partaking in badminton, bingo or
quizzes.
We usually hold meal nights once a month and sometimes Sunday lunches too. Coffee nights are also quite popular and a nice way to get to know others from the Club in a more relaxed atmosphere.

Q - Can I bring a friend along?
A - Yes, once you have joined you can bring up to 2 guests along to a dance, although they will have to pay £2 more
entrance fee than Members.

Q - I am feeling quite vulnerable starting a new social life, how can you help?
A - We totally understand that people starting a new social life will feel a bit uneasy or nervous at first, this is why we have Newcomers Hosts who will help you through the night - not just for the first night but for most events. Remember, everyone in the hall has been in a similar situation at some point.

Q - Where do you hold your disco/dances?
A
- We hold our dances at various venues in and around Ipswich. Sometimes at schools, sometimes we hire a Club room with a bar. The reason we hire school halls is twofold, firstly so we can accommodate more Members in one place. Secondly, some of our  Members prefer to bring along their own drink, and this allows them to do that.

Q - What if my ex partner wants to join after I have joined?
A - If you think there may be trouble if your ex suddenly turns up to join too, you have a right of veto which you can put into place on the night you join. This will stop the ex coming to our dances.

We pride ourselves in keeping this Club a safe environment  for our Members, and hope to keep it that way. If you have any further questions, please call Marion on 07890954019 or contact us through email on idssclub@gmail.com and we will be happy to help.
